White certificate housed inside maroon folder with engraved gold text reading: Alma College, Alma, Michigan. Inside cover of folder is lined with white fabric and has an image, in black, of the university's chapel.
Certificate has a transparent plastic overlay. Both are held in place by four fabric corners. Gold seal of the university, with attached maroon and white ribbons, is affixed to the lower left corner of the certificate. Certificate text, in black, reads:
The President and Faculty of Alma College extend congratulations to Nelson R. Mandela on this occasion of his U.S. Freedom Tour. Please accept our best wishes for continued success,
