The first page outlines Mr Mandela's life achievements and the university's reasons for conferring the award upon him.
The second page is the diploma that includes the red seal of the university. The certificate reads:
By the authority of the University Council, Nelson Mandela has today been admitted to the degree Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) to certify which the seal of the university is affixed this fourth day of September 2000.
