Since the onset of the Troubles in 1971, Nationalist and Loyalist communities throughout Northern Ireland have been divided by Peace Walls. These large stone and steel constructions were designed to protect neighbourhoods from sporadic attacks and retain a sense of peace and protection. Of the city's 17 walls, West Belfast's sections are the most visited.

The city of Paris names a garden after Nelson Mandela; Jardin Nelson Mandela

On the 7th Of June 1990, on his first trip abroad after imprisonment, Nelson Mandela visited the City of Paris and gave a speech. He was received like a head of state, although he was not one at the time. Accompanied by Mama Winnie Madikizela Mandela, that trip to France came with a clear message that "France must support a new & reformed South Africa". Four years later, Nelson Mandela became the first black democratic President of South Africa. A few weeks after his election, François Mitterr became the first Head of State to be received on an official visit by Madiba. The garden was opened in May 2018, after 5 years of work.
Zandile Myeka, a Metadata and Photographs Archivist at the Nelson Mandela Foundation visited the garden in July 2024, and took photographs of the €40 million, four hectares green space garden.

Global Citizen – EP 1 is the fourteenth extended play by British rock band Coldplay and their first release under the pseudonym Los Unidades. The project was made available worldwide on 30 November 2018 featuring production by Rik Simpson and musical guests including Pharrell Williams, David Guetta, Stargate, and others. It was released as part of the lead-up to the group's performance at the "Mandela 100" Global Citizen Festival, which happened on 2 December 2018, in South Africa. All proceeds from the EP were donated to Global Citizen, an international education and advocacy organization working to catalyse the movement to end extreme poverty.

In Ville de Créteil, Nelson Mandela beams in epic proportion at a height of a whopping 44 meters. Not only is the fresco the sum of talent and breathtaking detail, it is also reportedly the largest mural of Madiba in the world as the Embassy of France in South Africa shared.

Naming asteroids in honor of Nelson Mandela

The application to name an asteroid in honour of Nelson Mandela was turned down because the rule about asteroid naming is that asteroids cannot be named for politicians until 100 years after their deaths.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation in partnership with Johannesburg City Parks, Zoo, Old Mutual, Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Forest, Fisheries and the Environment, Green Development Foundation, Meals on Wheels Community Services South Africa, as well as Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa commemorated the 9th anniversary of struggle icon Nelson Mandela’s passing by officially opening the Jukskei Park in Riverlea, in Johannesburg. The park will also be the symbolic home for the foundation’s ‘One Million Tree Campaign’, which aims to promote environmental justice and food security, while mitigating the impact of climate change.

Nelson Mandela Statue unveiled in Nambule in front of the Mandela National Stadium, Uganda. People across Africa are embracing the chance to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s life in the month of July. In Uganda, a statue of the African icon was unveiled. The statue is a half figure of the African icon wearing his famous Madiba shirt. South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr. Naledi Pandor was in Uganda for the unveiling.

South Africa and Uganda have strong ties dating back to the struggle against colonialism and apartheid. Uganda hosted and trained South African anti-apartheid activists and freedom fighters in the late 1980s. Minister Pandor described the statue as a fitting tribute to the strong relationship between the two countries.

The murals were illustrated by Artist Linsey Levendall. His illustrations were based on photographs of the great men by Matthew Willman (Mandela) and Andrew Zuckerman (Tutu). Levendal drew some of Cape Town’s most iconic features into the pattern of Madiba’s shirt, including Bo Kaap, penguins at Boulders Beach, Table Mountain, and a minstrel at the Kaapse Klopse, and the King Protea. Archbishop Tutu’s shirt contained imagery that invoked the anti-apartheid Struggle as well as the core political values of non-racialism, freedom, togetherness, and peace.

Budapest establishes a park in Honor of Nelson Mandela

Budapest establishes a memorial park in honour of Nelson Mandela on the northern slope of Gellért Hill, the Mayor’s Office. Nelson Mandela Park, occupying 5,000sqm of lawns and a wooded area, will be the city’s first permanent landscaped artwork. The 9.4 million forint (EUR 24,000) park will be inaugurated on July 18, International Mandela Day.

A mural commemorating Nelson Mandela's visit to Montreal 30 years ago was unveiled in the city's Sud-Ouest borough. It was painted at the Union United Church on Delisle street one of the oldest Black congregations in Canada and the place where Mandela spoke on this trip to the city in 1990.

Posthumous Title of Honorary Member to Nelson Mandela from UIA

On July 18th, 2018, in honour of what would have been Nelson Mandela's 100th birthday, the UIA awarded him the posthumous title of Honorary Member.
