The legacy of Nelson Mandela was given wings with the unveiling of the Mandela Day logo by South African Airways (SAA) on the first aircraft of its entire fleet. The new branded A330-200 Airbus, fourth out of six new aircraft, was revealed to sponsors and the media at the airways’ technical park in Johannesburg. President Bill Clinton hosted a benefit in his private office to honour the lasting legacy of Nelson Mandela. This event marks the launch of a new Foundation initiative to promote Mr Mandela’s legacy globally in the years ahead.

At the ceremony, the Centre of Memory also received a mechanical boost by way of a vehicle donated by Volkswagen SA and a commitment from comedian and actor, Eddie Izzard to a future donation. Izzard is in South Africa to run 27 marathons in 27 days in honour of the 27 years Nelson Mandela spent in prison.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation accepted a generous donation of one million rand from business software solutions firm SAP (software solutions). SAP has supported the work of the Foundation for an extended period of time and has supported the Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture since its inception.
