The Nelson Mandela Foundation launched a new strategy for International Nelson Mandela Day, titled Mandela Day: The Next Chapter, at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in May 2019. The new strategy charts a new path for the ten-year-old initiative significantly changing the manner in which it will impact on people’s lives. The launch was attended by stakeholders from global organisations, corporate South Africa and civil society organisations - among them, the United Nations, Habitat for Humanity, Vodacom, early childhood development practitioners and national celebrities.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation invited Chief Khosi Vho Ravele R.R., five learners and five coordinators from Maulume Village to visit the Nelson Mandela Foundation and other legacy sites within Johannesburg. The trip was to give the learners an opportunity to learn about the history of their country as future leaders.

Nelson Mandela Foundation in partnership with Habitat for Humanity and the Department of Human Settlements honouring Nelson Mandela legacy by building 100 homes for 100 families across three regions; Western Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal. In celebrating the memory and legacy of Nelson Mandela, the Gauteng City Region, City of Tshwane in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation hosted Mandela Remembrance walk and run event in the Union Buildings. The event was held virtually on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December, with just a small number of people observing all COVID protocols and gathering at the Union Buildings to do a symbolic 6.7 kilometre walk through the streets of Tshwane in his memory and also to remember all the lives lost globally to the Coronavirus in 2020.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation in partnership with Johannesburg City Parks, Zoo, Old Mutual, Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Forest, Fisheries and the Environment, Green Development Foundation, Meals on Wheels Community Services South Africa, as well as Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa commemorated the 9th anniversary of struggle icon Nelson Mandela’s passing by officially opening the Jukskei Park in Riverlea, in Johannesburg. The park will also be the symbolic home for the foundation’s ‘One Million Tree Campaign’, which aims to promote environmental justice and food security, while mitigating the impact of climate change.
Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation International Honorary Award 2021 presented to the Nelson Mandela Foundation by Mrs. Vardinoyannis, in the presence of the CEO of the "Nelson Mandela Foundation" Mr. Sello Hatang. The Nelson Mandela Foundation was presented with the award for its significant work and the legacy of Nelson Mandela that lead to a fairer and more humane world.
In her introductory speech, Mrs. Vardinoyannis spoke about the legacy of the great fighter and stressed that following Mandela's teachings, the new generation can change the world.
The 2018 Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture, in partnership with the Motsepe Foundation, was delivered by former US President Barack Obama in Johannesburg on 17 July. To honour the centennial of Madiba’s birth, the 2018 lecture’s theme was “Renewing the Mandela Legacy and Promoting Active Citizenship in a Changing World”. The lecture focused on creating conditions for bridging divides, working across ideological lines, and resisting oppression and inequality.

A tribute concert in honor of Nelson Mandela at St Paul the Apostle Church in New York City celebrating his life and legacy, and the 20th anniversary of democratic freedom in South Africa. Morgan Freeman performed dramatic readings from the original transcripts of Mr. Mandela's letters, speeches, and personal writings. These readings were accompanied by the world-famous Soweto Gospel Choir, who filled the cathedral with songs that honoured Mandela’s life and vision. Launch of the ''Mandalas for Mandela'' exhibition. A collaboration between the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Arts Alive and Imbali Visual Arts and the Constitution Hill. The exhibition comprises Mandalas from students from 26 Gauteng schools. It was launched at Constitution Hill on 6 September 2011 to coincide with the Arts Alive festival.
