In celebrating the memory and legacy of Nelson Mandela, the Gauteng City Region, City of Tshwane in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation hosted Mandela Remembrance walk and run event in the Union Buildings. The event was held virtually on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December, with just a small number of people observing all COVID protocols and gathering at the Union Buildings to do a symbolic 6.7 kilometre walk through the streets of Tshwane in his memory and also to remember all the lives lost globally to the Coronavirus in 2020.

Distribution was done in Mamelodi for two beneficiaries.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation invited Chief Khosi Vho Ravele R.R., five learners and five coordinators from Maulume Village to visit the Nelson Mandela Foundation and other legacy sites within Johannesburg. The trip was to give the learners an opportunity to learn about the history of their country as future leaders.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation launched a new strategy for International Nelson Mandela Day, titled Mandela Day: The Next Chapter, at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in May 2019. The new strategy charts a new path for the ten-year-old initiative significantly changing the manner in which it will impact on people’s lives. The launch was attended by stakeholders from global organisations, corporate South Africa and civil society organisations - among them, the United Nations, Habitat for Humanity, Vodacom, early childhood development practitioners and national celebrities.
Following Nelson Mandela’s sentencing on 7 November 1962, the Pretoria Magistrates Court issued a warrant committing him to prison for five years. He had been convicted and sentenced that day to three years for on charges of “inciting to trespass laws” (to strike) and two for leaving South Africa without a passport. It was stipulated that the two sentences were to run consecutively. The second Warrant of Committal was issued by the Transvaal Provincial Division of the Supreme Court of South Africa on June 12, 1964, the same day the judge handed down a sentence of life imprisonment for Mr Mandela and his colleagues, who was convicted on four counts of sabotage in the Rivonia Trial. The first two counts were for contravening Section 21(1) of the General Laws Amendment Act (Sabotage Act) No. 76 of 1962; the third in contravention of Section 11(a), read with Sections 1 and 12 of Act No. 44 of 1950; and the fourth was for contravening Section 3(1) (6), read with Section 2 of Act No. 8 of 1953 (as amended).
The Rivonia Trial, arguably the most significant political trial in South African history, generated a vast archive, ranging from the official court records to media coverage of the trial. This database, and the records audit on which it is built, constitutes a first step towards documenting the archive. The need for the database was determined by the fragmentary and scattered nature of the archive.
The archival record relating to the late Mr Nelson Mandela is infinite, fragmentary and scattered, both geographically and institutionally, throughout the world, making it almost impossible to physically locate. The imperative, therefore, is to document this vast resource, facilitate access to it, and promote its preservation and use.
The Mandela Materials Database is a guide to the Mandela archive elsewhere, other than the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory. Both local and international repositories have been surveyed for any material on Mr Mandela to include in the database. The purpose of this database is to point researchers to the relevant repositories holding the actual archival material.

Nelson Mandela was the first democratically elected president in South Africa. During his presidential period the country faced many socio-economic challenges with HIV AIDS being one of them. It is only after leaving the presidency that Nelson Mandela was able to give the HIV/ AIDS pandemic his full attention and became a central figure in the fight HIV/AIDS. This collection documents Nelson Mandela's efforts to fight the HIV pandemic in the whole country. The collection dates from 2001 until 2007 and provides insight to partnerships that Nelson Mandela formed with Mede-Sins Sans Frontiere and business in South Africa and to fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the in South Africa.
