The roundtable dialogue hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation in collaboration with the Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI) and the Wits History Workshop. The dialogue sought to discuss the origins of the Ingonyama Trust and its implications for the people of Kwa-Zulu Natal. The Nelson Mandela Foundation with the Graça Machel Trust, Kuhluka Movement, and Zoleka Mandela Foundation hosted an event as part of the "Remembrance period" to mark five years since Madiba’s passing and to recognize the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.
The event aimed at focusing on purposefully create a caring society that prioritizes women and adolescents and creates the conditions for a dignified life, in a society like South Africa where the murder rate of women is three times the global average and 68.5% of women have experienced some form of sexual violence.

Jack Swart was Mr Mandela's warder and chef from 7 Dec 1988 to 11 Feb 1990 at Victor Verster Prison. This collection includes notes by Mandela to Swart, correspondence, photographs, recipes and menus of the food Swart cooked for Mandela, and a manuscript of Swart's life story in Afrikaans. It includes a video clip of the drive from the Victor Verster House to the prison gates that Mandela would have taken on 11 Feb 1990 when he was released.

Zandile Myeka a Metadata and Photographs Archivist at the Nelson Mandela Foundation interviewed Jack Swart on his experience being Madiba’s warder at his last prison, now called the Groot Drakenstein Correctional Centre, and staff of the Foundation interacted with him during the Q&A session.
The collection consists of a report of 3 visits by Dr Jacques Moreillon as ICRC Delegate General for Africa to Robben Island (1973, 1974 and 1975) and his meetings with Nelson Mandela during and after his incarceration. It also includes a manuscript, “Moments with Madiba”; a letter to Mandela dated 25 April 2005; and a brief resume of Moreillon, dated 2009. The report and manuscript cover the period 1963-2004, focusing on 1973 onwards.
First picture is an activity for Mandela Day organized by Scotia Bank, “Take a child to work” where students were addressed by Mrs. Shirley Hoyana on Mr Mandela’s work ethics. The last two pictures are kids at the Middleton Primary school where the Mission celebrated the Nelson Mandela Day.
In celebration of ‘Mandela Day’ the Mission identified the disabled as a sector of the Japanese society that is disadvantaged. It learned about the concept of Swan bakeries and recognised the values as similar to those of the spirit of Nelson Mandela emphasising ‘social cohesion’. In this regard, embassy staff spent the morning of Saturday 18 July at the Swan bakery in Akasaka teaching the staff to cook famous South African dishes such as Bobotie, magwenya and milk tart. At the end of the cooking session, the embassy staff and their family members sat down with the employees of the bakery and had a marvellous lunch that had been jointly prepared.

This series consists of two letters smuggled out of Robben Island in 1977. Mac Maharaj gave them to Judge Thumba Pillay of legal firm of Pillay Seedat & Co. The letters are written by Nelson Mandela and Ahmed Kathrada, both of them wishing to appoint the firm to act on their behalf in legal proceedings against the Department of Prisons. Since the authorities refused contact with their attorneys, they had to use this "illegal" method to seek legal representation. The collection includes an envelope that Judge Pillay had posted addressed to his law firm. He did this in the event that the Security Police questioned him about how he received the letters, he would be able to prove that they were posted anonymously to him. A second donation of Judge Thumba Pillay contains correspondence and documents (mainly copies) pertaining to the case of Mandela vs Minister of Prisons.
