The Great Park Synagoge hosted a 67 minutes drive to collect blankets, clothes and non-perishable foods. Scorpion Legal Protection provided lunch to the Durban Children’s Home Free State Treasury planted trees A baby named after Mandela Moyo restaurant took party packs, face painters and drummers to the Umthombo Street Children in Durban and the Charlotte Maxeke hospital in Johannesburg. They also provided entertainment at a care centre for disabled children in Khayelitsha. Roedean School collected blankets and food for organisations which care for orphans and vulnerable children.
In celebration of ‘Mandela Day’ the Mission identified the disabled as a sector of the Japanese society that is disadvantaged. It learned about the concept of Swan bakeries and recognised the values as similar to those of the spirit of Nelson Mandela emphasising ‘social cohesion’. In this regard, embassy staff spent the morning of Saturday 18 July at the Swan bakery in Akasaka teaching the staff to cook famous South African dishes such as Bobotie, magwenya and milk tart. At the end of the cooking session, the embassy staff and their family members sat down with the employees of the bakery and had a marvellous lunch that had been jointly prepared.

This expedition was established in 2012 when Richard Mabaso, Chief Executive Officer of the Imbumba Foundation, overheard a fearful conversation between his mom and niece about puberty. Richard invited his friend Sibusiso Vilane, the first black person in the world to conquer the Three Poles Challenge (reaching the South Pole, North Pole and Mount Everest), to lead him on his first expedition to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. The objectives of the climb were to: Create awareness about the challenges facing impoverished girls in rural and poor schools during their monthly cycles; Raise funds to purchase sanitary towels so that needy girls can go to school when having their menstrual period and to Educate people about Mandela Day and the need to take action beyond 18 July, thereby helping to make every day a Mandela Day.

An opening of the exhibition 'Mandela- Gandhi Wall' with Ela Gandhi, Birad Rajaran, Maniben Sita, Virendra Gupta as well as Sello Hatang. The interactive, multimedia display features photographs, QR(quick recognition) codes that can be read by cell phones which then play videos that Birad Rajaran has loaded on to the internet, and a game that visitors can play by answering questions on the back of cards (similar to postcards) and then matching the photo on the card with the one on the wall.
The 3rd consecutive Nelson Mandela Day Marathon was held on 31 August 2014 under the rules of IAAF, AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races Distance), and the KZN Athletics Club. The event has 3 races categorized. It starts at the Manaye Hall in Imbali and finishes at The Nelson Mandela Capture Site, Howick. The above-mentioned races each meander through the beautiful breathtaking landscape of uMgungundlovu District Municipality passing historic sites along the way and ending at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site. Runners who complete the race were awarded a unique Nelson Mandela Marathon medal which is symbolic of the day South Africa gained its freedom.

Cycalive was launched by Torah Academy, Moletsane High and Tladi Technical in 1998. Cycalive is an event for Grade 11 students of different cultural and religious backgrounds.
