Frontline Exhibition, 2021.10.29,Houghton: [Set of 33 Still Images]

The Frontline exhibition creator assumes a very critical stance regarding the use of images in our society, defining these historical moments as indicative of a “lobotomised era of 'tourism' on the other’s pain”. In total there are eleven photographs depicting different scenes in different locations where conflict has ravaged a country. A child wearing a gas mask, a group of women clad in hijab, a boy playing with a tire in the street.

The roundtable dialogue hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation in collaboration with the Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI) and the Wits History Workshop. The dialogue sought to discuss the origins of the Ingonyama Trust and its implications for the people of Kwa-Zulu Natal. The Ingonyama Trust is a land trust established before the first democratic elections in 1994 administered by the Zulu King.

The fifth anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s passing away; a dialogue on the media coverage of the Nelson Mandela’s passing held at Nelson Mandela Foundation. The dialogue was facilitated by Tim Modise a veteran journalist, the panellist were Thabo Masebe Gauteng spokesperson, Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) at the time of Mandela’s passing, Sally Burdett head of eNCA news anchor team, Milton Nkosi, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Africa bureau chief, Angie Kapelianis South African Broadcasting Corporation national radio current affairs editor, Mondli Makhanya City Press editor-in-chief, and Leanne Manas South African TV presenter and media personality. The audience shared their memories of the day and made statements regarding Nelson Mandela leadership and his role in media.

Lucia Raadschelders Award

Former Nelson Mandela Foundation Photo Archivist Lucia Raadschelders received the Posthumous Order of the Companions of O.R Tambo in Silver Award bestowed by President Cyril Ramaphosa. The Raadschelders family donated the award to the Foundation.
