Brent Council awarded Nelson Mandela the Freedom of the Borough in recognition of his lifelong connection with the borough

Mandela addressed the Willesden Trades Council in 1962. The honour was supposed to have been conferred in April 1990 when Mandela visited Brent but it failed to get the necessary support. Hence this was only done in 2013.

Posthumous Title of Honorary Member to Nelson Mandela from UIA

On July 18th, 2018, in honour of what would have been Nelson Mandela's 100th birthday, the UIA awarded him the posthumous title of Honorary Member. The ceremony took place in the Portuguese Ministry of Justice and was hosted by the Portuguese Minister of Justice Francisca van Dunem and UIA President, Pedro Pais de Almeida.

The score music tribute to Nelson Mandela 100 concert commemorated Nelson Mandela’s Life and Legacy, calling for people in the world over to rise up and “Take Action, Insipre Change, Make Every Day a Mandela Day”. To commemorate this historic occasion, the Nelson Mandela Music Tribute (NMMT) on 18, 19 & 20 July at Praia do Aterro, Matosinhos, Porto, Portugal benefited the Nelson Mandela Foundation and local Portuguese charities including Apela.

The event was presented by the Municipality of Matosinhos / Porto and the Embassy of South Africa together with Score Music in association with Thirty-Three Productions, Inc., which joined together to organise a fitting musical tribute to Mandela and his legacy of achieving social change through peaceful means and dialogue.

The Nelson Mandela Music Tribute, staged on the shores of Matosinhos, Porto, was a three-day benefit event celebrating the indomitable spirit of Nelson Mandela, also known as Madiba. NMMT featured a star-studded lineup of world-class musical artists, award-winning actors, and celebrated dignitaries, with 100% of the net proceeds donated to charity.

-BBC Television programme: Panorama: Race Problems Around the World. The documentary deals with the growth of racial tension in the Britain and the USA as Mandela is imprisoned for life. This programme was first broadcast on 15 June 1964. 50 minutes, 25 seconds in length. Contains a report by Robin Day from Pretoria where Mandela and others have been sentenced in the Rivonia Trial. Includes interviews with those who condemn the trial and sentencing: Helen Suzman, Alan Paton, Winnie Mandela.
-Letter from a cameraman about "Panorama" programme (28 June 19964). This letter was sent by Ernest Christie to the series producer David Wheeler on South African press reaction to Robin Day's segment in the "Panorama: Race Problems Around the World" which he had filmed.

Budapest establishes a park in Honor of Nelson Mandela

Budapest establishes a memorial park in honour of Nelson Mandela on the northern slope of Gellért Hill, the Mayor’s Office. Nelson Mandela Park, occupying 5,000sqm of lawns and a wooded area, will be the city’s first permanent landscaped artwork. The 9.4 million forint (EUR 24,000) park will be inaugurated on July 18, International Mandela Day.

Programme to Combat Racism : World Council of Churches : [Part 2]

The Programme to Combat Racism started in 1968 as part of the WCC Programme Unit on Justice and Service. Its aim was to develop policies and programmes contributing to the liberation of victims of racism. Much of its attention and focus was on southern Africa, especially apartheid and the divestment campaign. It established a special fund from which donations to liberation movements were made and to solidarity organisations around the world.

It concentrates on archives of the central and Stockholm-based local organisations. It holds a big Africa collection.

Swedish South Africa Committee [Svenska Sydafrikakommittén]

The SSAC was formed in 1961 as an umbrella organisation of NGOs to start campaigning for a consumer boycott of South African products. It pressured the Swedish government to apply sanctions and later supported the ANC’s armed struggle. The committee dominated the anti-apartheid work in Sweden during the 1960s but its activities decreased as other organisations became more active.

This concert formed part of the 46664 concerts to promote awareness of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The Africa Centre was established in 1964 in London to create awareness about developments in Africa. Leading African artists, writers, politicians and musicians met at the centre and it served as a platform by organising evenings with theatre and discussions.
