Session one: A roundtable debate about the Expropriation without Compensation ignores threats to the property rights of the rural poor contained in bills before Parliament. The debate was facilitated by Sumaya Hendricks, and key speakers were Dr Annika Claasens and Mbhekiseni Mavuso.

Session two: screening of “This Land” documentary and dialogue on the future of land reform in South Africa, reflecting on the Constitutional Review Process and engaging with the proposed legislation. The dialogue was facilitated by Nokwanda Sihlali from the Land and Accountability Research Centre, the panellist were Emily Tjale, Constance Mogale, Mbhekiseni Mavuso, Nozuko Poni. The audience asked questions and made comments on the documentary.

A roundtable dialogue dedicated to Madiba the Lawyer in which it unloaded the ethics and values that characterised his life and profession and its relevance for reshaping the ethical character of the legal profession today. The dialogue started by the panellist discussing their own views on Nelson Mandela the lawyer then followed by the members of the audience interacting and asking the panellist questions.

Posthumous Title of Honorary Member to Nelson Mandela from UIA

On July 18th, 2018, in honour of what would have been Nelson Mandela's 100th birthday, the UIA awarded him the posthumous title of Honorary Member. The score music tribute to Nelson Mandela 100 concert commemorated Nelson Mandela’s Life and Legacy, calling for people in the world over to rise up and “Take Action, Insipre Change, Make Every Day a Mandela Day”. To commemorate this historic occasion, the Nelson Mandela Music Tribute (NMMT) on 18, 19 & 20 July at Praia do Aterro, Matosinhos, Porto, Portugal benefited the Nelson Mandela Foundation and local Portuguese charities including Apela.

The event was presented by the Municipality of Matosinhos / Porto and the Embassy of South Africa together with Score Music in association with Thirty-Three Productions, Inc., which joined together to organise a fitting musical tribute to Mandela and his legacy of achieving social change through peaceful means and dialogue.

The Nelson Mandela Music Tribute, staged on the shores of Matosinhos, Porto, was a three-day benefit event celebrating the indomitable spirit of Nelson Mandela, also known as Madiba. NMMT featured a star-studded lineup of world-class musical artists, award-winning actors, and celebrated dignitaries, with 100% of the net proceeds donated to charity.
