While South Africans waited with bated breath to hear the results of the May 2024 elections, a reminder of the man who symbolises democracy in South Africa and the world has taken up space gorgeously thanks to a new fresco painting in France.
In Ville de Créteil, Nelson Mandela beams in epic proportion at a height of a whopping 44 meters. Not only is the fresco the sum of talent and breathtaking detail, it is also reportedly the largest mural of Madiba in the world as the Embassy of France in South Africa shared.

The project was meant to educate and motivate children in schools about the values of Nelson Mandela. Following the hashtag, #AStatueToBeProudOf on twitter, the schools nominated themselves to win the sculpture and the winner was Kelsall Primary School.
Comune di Campi Bisenzio has dedicated a garden to Nelson Mandela. The dedication was part of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human rights. The Comune of Campi Bisenzio is a Town of roughly 47000 people and is part of the Metropolitan area of Florence.
On July 18th, 2018, in honour of what would have been Nelson Mandela's 100th birthday, the UIA awarded him the posthumous title of Honorary Member. The ceremony took place in the Portuguese Ministry of Justice and was hosted by the Portuguese Minister of Justice Francisca van Dunem and UIA President, Pedro Pais de Almeida.
The stone lies amonng those dedicated to William Shakespear, Winston Churchill and Diana the Princess of Wales among others. Mandela is the first South African to receive the honour.
Elders planted 100 trees in honour of their founder, Nelson Mandela, in a new exhibit representing 100 grass roots organisations that The Elders selected for their demonstration of moral leadership in the spirit of Mandela's legacy. The trees were planted in Delta Park, Johannesburg.
On the 7th Of June 1990, on his first trip abroad after imprisonment, Nelson Mandela visited the City of Paris and gave a speech. He was received like a head of state, although he was not one at the time. Accompanied by Mama Winnie Madikizela Mandela, that trip to France came with a clear message that "France must support a new & reformed South Africa". Four years later, Nelson Mandela became the first black democratic President of South Africa. A few weeks after his election, François Mitterr became the first Head of State to be received on an official visit by Madiba. The garden was opened in May 2018, after 5 years of work. Zandile Myeka, a Metadata and Photographs Archivist at the Nelson Mandela Foundation visited the garden in July 2024, and took photographs of the €40 million, four hectares green space garden.
Mandela addressed the Willesden Trades Council in 1962. The honour was supposed to have been conferred in April 1990 when Mandela visited Brent but it failed to get the necessary support. Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal created to mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty's accession to the Throne and granted to Mandela for his dedicated services to his peers, his community and to Canada
It included full orchestra and choir whilst the lyrics are written in the 11 official languages of South Africa. The words of Mr Mandela's short speech of 2001 to musicians have been used in the lyrics.
Mr Mandela is being honoured for his long fight for equal rights for all the children of South Africa. 7,137,222 children voted for Mrs Machel and Mr Mandela.
