History

The Institute for the Study of Public Violence, also known as the Goldstone Institute, was established in 1993 with the aim to document and research the work of the Goldstone Commission of Inquiry regarding the Prevention of Public Violence and Intimidation. In 1994, after the closure of the Goldstone Commission, the Institute was re-constituted and became the independent non-governmental Human Rights Institute of South Africa (HURISA).
