Dr Khulu Mbatha who holds a PhD in philosophy from the Friedrich-Schiller University, Germany was the Special Advisor to Mr Kgalema Motlanthe who was the president as well as deputy president of South Africa (2008-2014). Mbatha spent over 20 years as a student and diplomat in various countries in Europe and the US. He was the Chief Representative in Athens, Greece from 1988 to 1990, co-ordinator of the ANC’s National Executive Committee 1991 –1994. He then worked with Minister Alfred Nzo – Foreign Minister, served as Minister Counsellor to South Africa’s Permanent Mission at the UN, was Consul-General to Munich, Bavaria, Germany and deputy Director-General in the Department of Home Affairs.
