The President this morning met with the Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, The Most Reverend Njongonkulu Ndungane and a delegation from the church.
Although this meeting took place at the request of the Archbishop and also dealt with the recently reported perception of a dispute between the President and the Archbishop, it formed part of a series of meetings the President will be holding with religious leaders. In these meetings the President briefs religious leaders on the government's approach to a range of national.
In the meeting this morning the President gave such an overview and in the process also dealt with the perception of a dispute between him and the Archbishop.
Both parties agreed that there was no fundamental difference between them and expressed mutual appreciation of the respective roles played in society. The President and the Archbishop shall, as they have done in the past, continue to meet on a one to one basis to discuss matters of mutual concern.
The President will meet the leadership of the Methodist Church at his house in Lower Houghton today as part of his consultation with the religious community.
