Two small certificates housed inside small maroon folder with engraved gold International Union of Students (IUS) logo (burning torch and open book) on the front.
First certificate appears to be the image of the 17th November Medal, in black. Certificate is signed by the IUS president.
Second certificate, written in black, reads:
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela
is a holder of the 17th November Medal awarded in the name of millions of studnets the world over by the Secretariat of the International Union of Students (IUS) for meritous work in the interests of students and an outstanding contribution to the cause of peace and to a better future for mankind.
Signed by: IUS Secretary General

Folder is paperclipped to a white sheet of paper with award citation. Black text reads:
Proposal to award the 17th November Medal to Nelson Madnela
In recognition of the role played by Nelson Mandela, one of the leading sons of South Africa in the struggle against the apartheid regime and for the national and social liberation of his people, his outstanding contribution towards the unit of action of the overwhelming majority of the people, youth and students of South Africa culminating inb the proclamation and actual practice of the armed struggle to topple the racist regime.
Since his imprisonment- on 12th June 1964 and his undeterred resolve to remain committed to the struggle of the South African peoples, he continues to be a symbol of resistance to his colleagues in prison and the entire progressive forces in South Africa and a source of inspiration for the international solidarity movement.
Cognizant of all this the Secretariat of the IUS decides to bestow on comrade Nelson Mandela the highest award of the IUS, the 17th November Medal
