Two cream coloured certificates housed inside blue folder with engraved gold text, reading: The University of Michigan, Nelson Mandela
First certificate is the citation for the honorary degree. The six paragraphs outline Mr Mandela's life struggles, and finishes with, "We take both pride and pleasure in bestowing upon Nelson Mandela, in absentia, the honorary degree, Doctor of Laws."
Second certificate is the honorary diploma. Stamped gold seal of the University of Michigan, with attached blue and yellow ribbon, is affixed to bottom left corner. Certificate text, in black, is in Latin, and reads as follows:

Procuratores et Professores Academici
Omnibus qui has litteras perlegerint Salutem
Scriatis Nelson Mandela gradu
honoris causa nos ornabisse eique omnia Jura, Privilegia, Immunitates, Dignitates, Honores, Insignia ad hunc Gradum pertinentia dedisse. Cuius in rei testimonium hisce Litteris Universitatis Sigillo muntis nomina nostra subscripsimus.
