Atlanta City Council
Whereas, the Atlanta City Council realizes that black South Africans have been denied the rights and privileges monopololized by whites, and that many thousands of oppressed men, women, and children have died violently in the relentless struggle for peace, freedom, and the equitable sharing of political and economic power in their own land; and

Whereas, the Atlanta City Council realizes that the struggle for democracy, and human dignity for the oppressed and brutalized people of South Africa is not over, and applauds the continuing efforts of the African National Congress, the United Democratic Front, the African Council of Churches, and the many other justice minded organizations in South Africa and throughout the world.
Now, Therefore, be it proclaimed that the Atlanta City Council supports the Nelson Mandela International Reception Committee in celebrating the release of Nelson Mandela and hereby designates Sunday, February 18, 1990 in Atlanta
