White certificate in green leather folder with green fabric lining and engraved gold Cairo University seal and words "Cairo University." Back of folder also includes gold engraved Cairo University seal with the words "Cairo University" in Arabic. Taken out of folder for preservation. Binding of certificate is tied with a green ribbon.
Certificate is written in English on the left side and Arabic on the right side. The bottom centre of the certificate has the gold seal/ribbon of the university.
Text is black, and reads as follows:

In recognition of the outstanding record of Mr Nelson Mandela, The African Combatant, in defense of public freedoms, the right of self-determination, social justice, and human rights; and
Upon the recommendation of the Council of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science:
The Cairo University Senate, meeting on the 23rd of April 1990 conferred
the degree honorary Dcotorate in Political Science on Mr Nelson Mandela
