White certificate rolled inside ornately engraved silver cylinder and housed inside a large maroon velvet box. Box also includes a large wooden stand for the cylinder, with an affixed silver plate engraved with the following text:

Held on December 24, 1990, for conferment of the degree of Doctor of Literature(honoris causa) to Dr. Nelson Mandela
Certificate has the logo of Jadavpur University at the top, center in red. Bottom center of certificate is also stamped with the seal. Certificate text, in black, reads:

This is to certify that
the degree of Doctor of Literature was conferred Honoris Causa
on Nelson Mandela at
a special convocation of the University held on the Twenty fourth day of December in the year Nineteen Hundred and ninety.
