City of Miami Beach Proclamation
Whereas: The City of Miami Beach wishes to extend a most cordial welsome to the members of the Council on Foundations who are meeting at the Fontainebleau Hilton for the Council's 43rd Annual Conference from April 27-29, 1992; and,
Whereas: Members of the Council, engaged in a variety of efforts to improve the quality of life of communities around the world, have expressed concern about Nelson Mandela's visit to Dade County in 1990; and,
Whereas: Nelson Mandela, through his courage and by his vision , has emerged as a leader respected by freedom loving people everywhere; and,
Whereas: Nelson Mandela is a man of deep faith and domestic convictions who has chosen to struggle for a civil society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities; and,
Whereas: The people of Miami Beach believe that any victory against racism anywhere in the world is a victory for all people.
Now, therefore, Do I, Seymour Gelber, as Mayor of the City of Miami Beach, do hereby proclaim, April 27, 1992, as
Nelson Mandela Day
In the City of Miami Beach.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the great seal of the City of Miami Beach to be affixed.
