Resolution
Whereas the Faculty and Administratiors of the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs, Vice Chancellor Brenda Birkett and Chancellor Edward R Jackson did recommend to Dr. Leon R Tarver II, President of the Southern University System, who did approve and now recommends the approval of the Southern University Board of Supervisors, for bestowal and conferrance of the Honorary doctorate Degree in Public Policy upon the Most Honorable Nelson R Mandela, President Emeritus of the Republic of South Africa

Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Board of Supervisors of Southern University do hereby approve and authorize the Administration of Southern University and A&M College at Baton Rouge to confer upon the Honorable Nelson R Mandela the Honorary doctorate in Public Policy at a time and place to be established with the System President and Mr Mandela.
Be it further resolved that the Board of Supervisors do hereby authorize the President of the Southern University system to issue an appropriate proclamation to recognize the date and the conferring of the Honorary doctorate upon Mr Mandela recognizing it as Nelson Mandela Day throughout the Southern University System and further declaring him to be an honorary citizen of the Jaguar Nation.
Be it further resolved that this original resolution be presented to the Honorable Nelson R Mandela and that a copy be spread upon the records of the Board of Supervisors of Southern University
