Certificate is housed in a green velvet lined wooden box containing a wooden roller. The top of the box has a small gold coin sized seal of Johannesburg and a small plate that reads: Freeman of the City of Johannesburg Mr Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela 23 July 2004
The certificate reads: City of Johannesburg in the province of Gauteng, South Africa
confers by unanimous resolution of the Council dated 23 July 2004, the Honorary Freedom of the City conferred upon Mr Nelson Rlolihlahla Mandela
Accordingly Council resolves:
That in appreciation and recognition of the service rendered by Mr Nelson Mandela and as a fitting tribute to his life and contribution to the struggle for democracy and freedom.
Do hereby admit him to be a freeman of the City of Johannesburg.
In witness whereof the Seal of the City of Johannesburg is hereunto affixed on this the 23rd day of July 2004.
