Certificate reads: Pledge of Support
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela
In the true spirit of Team Shosholoza, we, the crew of the 2007 South Africa's Cup Challenge, would be privileged to have you as our honorary 18th man - to be with us in spirit and continually inspire us with your quiet determination and unwavering commitment.
As you have demonstrated throughout your life we will continue to overcome the obstacles that stand in our path in the build up to the 2007 America's Cup with classic African dignity - dedicated to a cause greater than victory.
Against all odds and against the world's best yachtmen, we have embraced your legacy and taken the impossible - proudly looking the world in the eye and proving the strength and resolve of the African spirit. As your teammates we are participating in the America's Cup challenge 2007 with honor, dignity, and courage. We will set our goals high, respect our fellow teammates and train with enthusiasm.
In victory, we will be humble, in defeat we will remain proud holding our heads high by resolving to contiue doing the very best that we can. As we sail, we resolve to pioneer the future of competitive international sport in South Africa for the benefit of our children and our children's children. This we do for South Africa, our land.
