150 learners, teachers and cycling enthusiasts convened at the Torah Academy campus in Norwood, Johannesburg, for the 14th annual CycAlive challenge, a youth highlight in the Mandela Day activities calendar.
Field Band Foundation from Springs, Rabbi Dovid Hazdan -the dean of the Torah Academy, Dan Zimba, Rabbi Mottie Hadar, Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein, Sello Hatang, Marlene Bethlehem, Lelo Mzaca, a 702 sports, Johannesburg Steelwings Harley Davidson Club-who arrived to show their support, and Ian Freeman of RAM.

As the emphasis for Nelson Mandela Day 2012 is being placed on raising youth through decent education, the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory – in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education – is driving some of South Africa’s most meaningful initiatives, namely the Container Library Project and the 94+ Schools Project, inspired to improve the conditions of our more impoverished schools and encourage literacy to children within our historically disadvantaged communities.
