White certificate wirh gray matting in green/gold frame. Taken out of frame for Preservation.
Certificate has the green, blue, gold, white, and red seal of Dundee (two dradons, a flower pot, a crown, and a lily) at the top. Two ANC flags decorate the left and right sides of the certificate. Certificate text, in black and gold, reads:
At Glasgow on the Ninth day of October, Nineteen Hundred and Ninety three. Thomas M. McDonals, J.P. Lord Provost of the City of Dundee hereby confirms that on the thirty first day of October, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five The City of Dundee District Council did admit and receive Nelson Mandela as honorary Burgess of the City of Dundee with all the rights and privileges appertaining thereto in recognition of his long years of imprisonment as a result of his fighting for freedom from apartheid for his fellow citizens in South Africa, of the symbol which he has become throughout the world in the campaign to change the South African Government's repressive and racist policies, and in testimony of the esteem in which he is held by Councillors and Citizens.
